ASMW FA – Shannon Hurley

Shannon Hurley

Mahalo folks! I am gearing up for some new recordings. I have two new albums in the works. The first is a chill-pop project called Lovers and Poets, of which I am collaborating with Bryan Talbot here in Nashville. The second is a solo record that will be more of a mainstream pop-rock album (sort of a continuation of “Ready to Wake Up [my previous album]).

So I just moved to Nashville from LA (as chronicled in my song “California”) and I am finding the people here friendly, the landscape lush, and the weather extremely humid (which I love!). I’m a little baffled by a ubiquity of “sweet tea”. It is such a popular southern staple that even McDonald’s has added it to their menu.

I also got a part time job to supplement my musical career! I work as a hostess at Noshville, modeled after a New York-style Delicatessen. I can’t eat most things on the menu because I am vegetarian, but maybe someday someone will invent veggie matzo-ball soup. We have lots of regulars (customers, not menu items) that you might have heard of: Vince Gill, Ben Folds, Ronnie Dunn, are just a few who I have had the pleasure of showing to their table. Apparently Robert Plant has visited too, but since I started in March, he has been on tour. I am not even the world’s biggest Robert Plant fan, but he is so mythical that I would be spellbound in his presence. I have decided that even if I wanted to quit my job, I would still hold out until the day I see Robert Plant walk through the door. That’s right, my long term restaurant career goal is to see Robert Plant.

So alongside of my restaurant rompings, I am also getting some action on the musical side of things. My song “Matter of Time” is being played at restaurants and department stores everywhere! If you hear it, twitter me because it’s fun to see what scenario it’s being heard in. I’ve gotten texts from friends at 6:43am at Krispy Kreme here in Nashville and FB messages from my peeps in LA at Denny’s while they are eating their Grand Slam Breakfasts. Boy, I am so glad I can contribute to the obesity problem in America!

Well I am going to sign off now, so thank you Mark Pipkin for having me as a featured artist. You will be hearing from me soon (in many incarnations) on Amie Street. Adios, and see you next time!

xoxo Shannon Hurley
