ASMW FA – Aryn Michelle

Howdy from Texas! This is Aryn Michelle, and I’m a “fringe pop” singer/songwriter currently writing, performing and living near Dallas, Texas. Now, I am definitely not a “country” musician, but I do have some southern roots seeing as I was born not 10 miles from the historic Fort Worth stockyards, so that “twange” might creep out in my singing every now and then! I began writing my own music at the age of 15, and what started as a hobby quickly became a passion that lead to a career. I describe my style as “fringe pop” because its a little more complicated and nuanced than mainstream pop music (I pull alot of influences from rock, country, folk and jazz) and I spend alot of time trying to develop lyrics of depth and substance. However, I think its pretty singable and fun too!

When I went to college, I met some friends that helped me make my very first recordings of my songs. These first demos were rough, to say the least, but after years of learning how to write and record, I began to perform on a regular basis and set some loftier goals in the music world. After I graduated from college, I spent a year working for the AmeriCorps*VISTA program during the day and gigging around Georgetown and Austin, Texas at night. After this year I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to go back to school at one of the greatest contemporary music schools in the world, the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA.

While at Berklee, I released my sixth demo entitled “So Clearly” and her seventh project “LIGHT.” I also had the opportunity to record and tour with a fantastic band comprised of other Berklee students. This band went into the studio with me and, under the production prowess of Phillip Ferrell, recorded my first professional indie project called “Lockless Heart,” which was released in May 2009. While at Berklee I had the opportunity to share the stage with Paula Cole and submit songs to be heard by Paul Simon (crazy, I know!) I completed a certificate from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA with a major in Songwriting in May 2009.

Right now, besides trying to gig as much as I can, I’m focusing most all of my attention on writing for and fund-raising my next album project through SellaBand.com. SellaBand is an international website that helps indie artists reach fans all across the world. These fans can support the artist and help them raise funds to record an album by pre-ordering the project. I’m raising $50,000 for the album that will be the follow-up to “Lockless Heart,” and so far I’ve raised over $23,000 from fans all over the globe.
